Exeter-based property developer, Burrington Estates New Homes, have marked a major milestone in the build of their developments across the South West as they lay the one millionth brick at EXIII in Topsham.
The property developer, who have been building luxury new homes across the South West for the past three years, celebrated the occasion with a brick laying ceremony, with both construction teams and suppliers in attendance. The millionth brick marks the final phase of the build at EXIII, with only a few properties remaining.
The millionth brick follows a standout year of success for the award-winning developer, who have been recognised by the National House Building Council (NHBC) in their Quality Award Scheme which is the industry’s benchmark for quality of a development in terms of build standard and overall site management. Two site managers, Shaun Marsden and Gary O’Gorman, were awarded the Pride in the Job awards for their work at Trispen Meadows, Truro, and Notre Dame, Plymouth, with Shaun going on to win the prestigious Seal of Excellence Award.

We have always said that building houses is so much more than places for people to live, it’s about creating desirable homes and long-lasting communities. Colin continued, “It’s been great working with South West Brick and Stone who have supplied quality bricks for our developments and we have built a strong relationship which we hope to continue.”
Gary Norton, Managing Director at South West Brick and Stone said, “South West Brick and Stone are proud to be associated with Burrington Estates, providing high quality facing bricks to construct exceptional homes for modern families. We look forward to continued development in years to come.”

May has sprung upon us, the days are getting longer and warmer which means that Summer is on its way and it’s time to tidy up spring plants, plant out summer flowers and get planning for autumn. It’s also a great time to plant herbs, as plants will establish quickly in warm soil, just remember to keep them watered if the weather turns dry.
With National Gardening Week behind us, our gardens should be a canvas of colour, you don’t need to be an expert in gardening, Charlie Dimmock and Alan Titchmarsh had to start somewhere!
May is the perfect sowing month, plants will be growing strongly in the higher temperatures and you will also be able to watch the bees, birds and butterflies in your organic pot. Why not take part in The Big Butterfly Count? Sit in your garden or the park for 15 minutes and see how many butterflies you see! Register your results here; https://www.bigbutterflycount.org/

Buying your new home before it has been built, often known as off-plan has become increasingly popular. Not only for individual home owners, but for corporate investors to achieve greater returns, but some are discouraged by the idea of buying a product they haven’t seen.
As the government drives to get more new builds onto the market, more people from major investors to first time buyers are weighing up the pros and cons of buying property off plan.
Off plan purchasers are becoming progressively commonplace, although it isn’t as straightforward as traditional house-buying, with advances in technology, developers such as Burrington Estates New Homes offer computer generated images (CGIs) so the purchaser can visualise the finished product, plus virtual tours bringing the homes to life using 3D imagery. The financial advantages of investment can outweigh any uncertainty, buying off plan enables purchasers to secure high quality properties before they are built at the most competitive prices as opposed to buying second hand, meaning the best potential profits. Buying this pro-actively during process also provides an option of personalisation, with more choice available such as kitchen ranges, flooring, bathroom and technology choices.
