£1.2m affordable homes scheme completed at high quality development in Cornwall

A new collection of 10 one, two and three bedroom affordable homes have been specially created at our development, Penrose View, Truro in a bid to tackle the current UK housing crisis.

We have worked  in partnership with a leading Cornish social housing provider, Ocean Housing. the homes have been completed and handed over to Ocean Housing, who have begun moving tenants in to a mix of rent and shared ownership homes.

With an average of 30% affordable homes on our developments, we are committed to providing affordable housing within the region and are currently developing further affordable homes at our nearby development, Trispen Meadows, in Trispen, Truro alongside our sites in Plymouth, Exeter and upcoming site in Dorset.

We are aiming to deliver more rural homes throughout the South West and are actively seeking suitable sites in local communities where there is a need for affordable housing.

Burrington Estates New Homes enjoys close working relationships with a number of social housing providers, including Liverty, formerly known as Devon and Cornwall Housing.

Penrose View is a collection of 28 new homes within the delightful village of Shortlanesend. With nearby access to Truro, popular seaside towns and the Cornish countryside, the new homes were hotly anticipated on the open market with the 18 new properties now fully sold out. Each of the homes, including the affordable properties, have been designed to be in keeping with the local surroundings and make use of local materials.

Work on the £1.2 million scheme began in September 2017 with the new affordable homes completed and handed over in August 2018. Taylor Lewis, a local property agent, have been working alongside Ocean Housing throughout the transfer of the new homes.

David Matthews, Development Director at Burrington Estates New Homes, said: “Developing affordable housing on our schemes is absolutely vital in order to meet the demand for new homes in the South West. There are so many different types of buyer to consider when creating a new housing development and Penrose View is no different. Penrose View is a great example of how we can provide well designed, quality affordable homes for local people. Working with Ocean Housing has been a brilliant experience and allows us to respond to a need for more affordable housing within the local area.”

The scheme, a combination of rent and shared ownership housing, has been officially handed over Ocean Housing – and its tenants have already started moving in to their new homes.

Tracey Daniels, resident at Penrose View, said:

“I am in love with my new home! I have lived in Shortlanesend for a while, previously in a much older estate which was looking a little tired. The new homes at Penrose View really do stand out for their design and quality, the overall feel it that of a small and quaint community. My son attends Richard Lander School so it’s in a great location for us too.”

Daniel Fisher, Site Manager at Penrose View, said:

“It’s been a real pleasure working on the new homes at Penrose View, both the private and affordable units. It’s so important to consider all types of homeowner when building our developments and that’s why we have created a range of affordable house types. The one bedroom homes are ideal for young couples and the larger three bedroom homes are great for growing families.”

Ocean’s chief executive, Mark Gardner, said the Penrose View scheme demonstrated a joint commitment to addressing Cornwall’s housing shortage.

“We’re very pleased to be working with Burrington Estates to provide much-needed affordable homes for local people,” said Mr Gardner. “I look forward to developing a strong relationship with Burrington Estates so that we can provide many more new homes together in the future. The most important thing is that our new residents are absolutely delighted with their new homes.”

The Big Butterfly Count at The Quarters in Plymouth

The Big Butterfly Count at The Quarters in Plymouth

Did you know that 70% of all butterfly species in the UK are experiencing a decline in numbers with some species even becoming extinct?

As recently highlighted by Sir David Attenborough, the disappearance of species points to catastrophic environmental damage. Being indicators of a healthy environment and healthy ecosystems, these insects are a vital asset to us.

At our new development in Plymouth; The Quarters, the Burrington Estates New Homes team are encouraging the public to take nature’s pulse, by joining the big butterfly count.

In our show home gardens, we have planted flowers that are rich in pollen and nectar – a perfect home for butterflies. We are also preparing a ‘nature walk’ that will begin work in early 2019 which will include cultivating species of blossoming flowers that will aim to enrich the population of the butterfly.

We are seeking for help, to build a picture of how butterflies and moths are doing in our own neighbourhoods, by taking part in the Big Butterfly Count.

Sit in your garden or the park for 15 minutes and see how many butterflies you see! Please register your results here; https://www.bigbutterflycount.org/

Topsham Rugby Club car park gets a makeover

Topsham Rugby Club car park gets a makeover

Topsham Rugby Club have been a great support of our new homes development, EXIII Topsham which is located adjacent to the club. As a company, we wanted to give something back to the community and members of Topsham Rugby Club.

A much-used car park had been in need of repair for some years. Riddled with potholes and loose tarmac, the car park had begun to be a danger to users.

We are currently working on the latest new homes site at EXIII, Topsham, and decided to step in to pave the way for the new car park and renovate it for the community.

Clive Banks, Junior Chairman at Topsham Rugby Club, said: “Burrington Estates presented us with a super proposition to improve our parking facilities. It was one of our key infrastructure priorities

and now we have a larger, safer and much smarter car park that will help us use the clubhouse more and host more visiting rugby sides.”

The four bedroom show home, The Brook, will be launching this July at EXIII. For more information about the properties available at EXIII, contact topsham@burringtonestates.com or call 01392 640022.

50 children from St Erme with Trispen Community Primary School were invited to explore the Trispen Meadows development and enjoy an afternoon of activities. Head of Construction, Mike Crawford, and Site Manager, Shaun Marsden, gave a tour of the site and the show home, and explained the essentials of house building in an interview led by the children. Making links with the local community is a cornerstone of what we at Burrington Estates do, so it was a real pleasure having them on site.’

Julie Orrell, Headteacher at Trispen Community Primary School, said: ‘As part of our curriculum, we explore the history, use and development of land in the village. The children were very impressed during the tour of the completed show home by the size of the house, garden and number of hi-tech appliances, such as a coffee machine that can be operated remotely before the owner arrives home! We would like to thank Nicola, Mike and Shaun from Burrington Estates NEw Homes for providing such an enjoyable learning opportunity for our children in their local community.”
