Did you know that 70% of all butterfly species in the UK are experiencing a decline in numbers with some species even becoming extinct?
As recently highlighted by Sir David Attenborough, the disappearance of species points to catastrophic environmental damage. Being indicators of a healthy environment and healthy ecosystems, these insects are a vital asset to us.
At our new development in Plymouth; The Quarters, the Burrington Estates New Homes team are encouraging the public to take nature’s pulse, by joining the big butterfly count.
In our show home gardens, we have planted flowers that are rich in pollen and nectar – a perfect home for butterflies. We are also preparing a ‘nature walk’ that will begin work in early 2019 which will include cultivating species of blossoming flowers that will aim to enrich the population of the butterfly.
We are seeking for help, to build a picture of how butterflies and moths are doing in our own neighbourhoods, by taking part in the Big Butterfly Count.
Sit in your garden or the park for 15 minutes and see how many butterflies you see! Please register your results here; https://www.bigbutterflycount.org/

This month, the Burrington Estates New Homes team took a trip across the border to take part in the annual ‘It’s a Knockout’ event in Cornwall. Nine members of the new homes team and friends were ready to compete against 11 other teams in the foam-tastic, inflatable, family fun day raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care.
The day saw local residents and holiday makers enjoy the entertainment, with a dog show, horse riding event, BBQ, live band and circus games as well as the mighty ‘It’s a Knockout’ final game.
12 teams in total took part in the 7 different obstacle stations which consisted of tunnel diving, climbing, ball throwing, hoop flying, group sack racing, space hopping, dancing and more.
It was a great event that was held at the St Erme Cricket Club in Trispen organised by The Trispen Funday committee, just a stone’s throw away from Burrington Estates new homes development; Trispen Meadows. Over £600 was raised for Cornwall Hospice Care with donations still being collected. We would like to thank the committee for inviting us and congratulate the well-deserved, winning team – Cornwall Glass.
Well done everyone.

Topsham Rugby Club have been a great support of our new homes development, EXIII Topsham which is located adjacent to the club. As a company, we wanted to give something back to the community and members of Topsham Rugby Club.
A much-used car park had been in need of repair for some years. Riddled with potholes and loose tarmac, the car park had begun to be a danger to users.
We are currently working on the latest new homes site at EXIII, Topsham, and decided to step in to pave the way for the new car park and renovate it for the community.
Clive Banks, Junior Chairman at Topsham Rugby Club, said: “Burrington Estates presented us with a super proposition to improve our parking facilities. It was one of our key infrastructure priorities
and now we have a larger, safer and much smarter car park that will help us use the clubhouse more and host more visiting rugby sides.”
The four bedroom show home, The Brook, will be launching this July at EXIII. For more information about the properties available at EXIII, contact email@example.com or call 01392 640022.
50 children from St Erme with Trispen Community Primary School were invited to explore the Trispen Meadows development and enjoy an afternoon of activities. Head of Construction, Mike Crawford, and Site Manager, Shaun Marsden, gave a tour of the site and the show home, and explained the essentials of house building in an interview led by the children. The students were also tasked with sketching the four bedroom show home, a Coombe house type which is available from £385,000, it has a mix of stonework and render, pointed archways and a landscaped front garden.
Mike Crawford, Head of Construction at Burrington Estates New Homes, said: ‘We were delighted to welcome the school children to Trispen Meadows as it’s such a fantastic opportunity for them to learn more about construction and the building industry. It was great to see them take their first steps at the brick laying demonstration – I think we had a few future bricklayers on our hands! Making links with the local community is a cornerstone of what we at Burrington Estates do, so it was a real pleasure having them on site.’
Julie Orrell, Headteacher at Trispen Community Primary School, said: ‘As part of our curriculum, we explore the history, use and development of land in the village. The children were very impressed during the tour of the completed show home by the size of the house, garden and number of hi-tech appliances, such as a coffee machine that can be operated remotely before the owner arrives home! We would like to thank Nicola, Mike and Shaun from Burrington Estates NEw Homes for providing such an enjoyable learning opportunity for our children in their local community.”
