The Forces Help to Buy scheme is a scheme designed to help those in the armed forces get their boots on to the property ladder. The pilot scheme, which launched on 1st April 2014 has now been extended until 31st December 2018.

The scheme allows service personnel to borrow up to 50% of their annual salary, interest free, to a maximum of £25,000. This can be used towards a deposit and other costs such as solicitor’s and estate agent’s fees.

The grant, which comes from the MOD can be used in conjunction with the standard Help to Buy scheme. You can also apply for the Forces Help to Buy scheme on your chosen property up until the extension date (31st December 2018) but proceed with the purchase after this date.

Who can use the scheme?

All personnel who:

  • Have completed the pre-requisite length of service
  • Have more than six months left to serve at the time they apply
  • Meet the right medical categories
